An NSS unit was started in Dalmia College in 1972. Initially, it had
two units for boys and girls. This voluntary scheme provides the students
with opportunities to enrich their personality and to understand the social
environment in which they live through voluntary community service. At
present the College has three NSS units. Two units are meant for boys and
one for girls. Under normal activities, one day camps are organised which
undertake works like campus cleaning, plantation in the campus, watering
of plants and orientation of the volunteers. Under special camping
programmes, special puja camps of all the three units are organised in the
adopted villages chosen where the volunteers actively participate in works
like Economic Survey of the village, construction and repair of village road
and drains, anti-malaria drive, AIDS awareness, use of safe drinking water
etc.
All the units are being properly guided by programme officers among
whom a lady programme officer looks after the girls unit.
